Road Biking
Frying Pan River Road is a biking destination due to the gorgeous scenery along the river and the perfect curving pavement. For many stretches, pavement rises at an easy, almost imperceptible rate – it is the old Midland railroad grade – so that you gain hundreds of feet over time without ever having to grind. However, Ruedi Reservoir drowned the original river bed and railroad grade, so there are steeper climbs (and delightful coasting descents) around the lake.
Arrive By Bike
Take the bike touring approach and bike up from Basalt with your panniers packed. Or work with us to arrange a private gear shuttle for an extra fee, and then bike up from Basalt (26.5 miles, 2520’ climbing and 732’ descending) for your stay (and even better, your downhill departure).
Bike From Here
Drive up to Beyul and use it as your basecamp for road biking exploration. The 6 miles (12 round trip) upriver to the end of the pavement has stunning views and perfect picnic spots. Ironically, downriver has the bigger climb: pedal 8.5 miles (17 round trip) and climb 620’ up to the high-point above Ruedi Reservoir for stunning views.
