Fly Fishing

ENDLESS MILES OF WILD RIVER

Clear, luminous water, awe-inspiring alpine views, and lunker-sized trout. Enjoy the tranquility of our private stretch of the Frying Pan River here at Beyul Retreat.

Or head down to Ruedi Reservoir and enjoy the abundance of shoreline surrounded by towering mountain peaks.

Just past the dam at the end of Reudi (a 20m drive from Beyul), the 14 miles of the extra-productive Gold Medal section of the Frying Pan begins, from the dam down to the confluence with the Roaring Fork. This section of the river offers catch-and-release brown trout and rainbow trout fishing.

A fishing license is required if fishing off Beyul property. These can be easily purchased online. Artificial Flies and lures only. Catch and release for the section from the Ruedi Dam downstream to the Roaring Fork for all fish except Browns. Maximum size for Browns is 14", limit = 2. Beyul Property is catch and release only.

Depending on the time of year, the flies and methods you’ll want to employ will vary. In fall with moderately low flows, fishing experts recommend to nymph under an indicator. Some flies that prove effective include small midge and Baetis variations. Patterns to consider include some sparkle baetis variations, rs2’s, pheasant tails, or a gold ribbed hare’s ear all-around sizes 16-22. Remember to keep that line weighted so those flies can get down into the appropriate feeding zones.
